Grant Nichols
Environmental Attorney & Risk Management Advisor
Grant Nichols is a Senior Vice President and Environmental Practice Leader at CAC Specialty, part of The Baldwin Group. He brings a distinctive dual background as both an attorney and an insurance broker, enabling him to design sophisticated risk management solutions for complex business and transactional challenges.
Grant specializes in environmental and transactional risk, advising private equity firms, real estate developers, lenders, consultants, manufacturing companies, and municipalities. His work focuses on identifying, mitigating, and transferring environmental liabilities—often in the context of mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, and structured finance. By aligning legal insight with insurance strategy, he helps clients navigate risk with precision and confidence.
Prior to joining CAC Specialty, Grant was a Senior Vice President with Marsh JLT Specialty, where he played a key role in developing environmental risk solutions for complex transactions. Earlier in his career, he practiced environmental law at Greenberg Traurig LLP and Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP (now Faegre Drinker), representing many of the same client types he serves today. This combination of legal and brokerage experience gives him a uniquely practical perspective on structuring insurance coverage to match both transactional and operational exposures.
In addition to his role at CAC, Grant provides independent consulting services, advising clients on environmental liability, risk allocation, and insurance strategy.
Grant earned his Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree in History and English from Rutgers University.
